Ciudad del Este is a master plan in ongoing development in Curridabat, east of San José, Costa Rica, conceived as a new urban centre for a growing area that lacked public space. The plan integrates offices, retail, hospitality, and housing around a network of streets, plazas, and parks that showcase Costa Rica’s lush vegetation.
Recognition
Special Mention
Its first phase — a mixed-use building and a boulevard — laid the groundwork for the stages that followed and challenged the predominant model of enclosed, car-oriented commercial architecture, delivering a project that generates active street life and creates genuine public space. It was recognized with a Prix Versailles 2019 Honorable Mention and Cemex Costa Rica’s Building of the Year award.
Phases 2 and 3 are now complete.
